Guilford County Clerk of Court Raises Money for Local Food Bank

High Point, NC (March 30, 2022) - Clerk of Court Lisa Johnson-Tonkins and her staff of approximately 150 deputy and assistant clerks raised over $800 in a month for a local food bank in High Point.  Johnson-Tonkins was contacted by food bank operator Josephine Williams who indicated that the food bank, located on Johnson Street in High Point could use monetary donations.  Johnson-Tonkins did not hesitate and immediately took action.

At the beginning of March, 2022, Johnson-Tonkins announced a different kind of ‘March Madness.’ She allowed her staff to wear jeans and their favorite team gear if they made a small donation towards to the food bank.  “The staff was excited to participate!,” Johnson-Tonkins said.  “In fact, I was asked what the next fundraiser would be.”

This is not the first time Johnson-Tonkins has encouraged her staff to engage in community outreach. In October of 2021, Johnson-Tonkins launched a “Fall Extravaganza” to donate supplies for seniors to the Family Justice Center in High Point.

In prior years, the Clerk’s office has participated in school supply and food supply drives for elementary schools in both Greensboro and High Point.  The office also adopted women and children of Mary’s House in Greensboro.

Johnson-Tonkins’ mission for service extend beyond the courthouse into the community the Clerk’s office serves.
